Single Malt Whiskies

Having long been a fan of that very male bastion – appreciating single malt whiskies, I attended Wine Circles latest single malt tasting night.     

 This featured the Adelphi range of cask strength, single barrel whiskies. Just to illuminate, whiskies come as three basic types. Cheapest are the blended; always taste the same, not very demanding, priced at say $50 – $60.

  Next are the Single malts, (but still blended) can be quite demanding, wide range of flavours, priced at say $75 – $100. At the top of the heap come the single Barrel, cask strength whiskies. Huge range of flavours, alcohol content usually up around 55-60%. The number of bottles from an individual cask is around 250 (for the whole world!). So in a word exclusive/unusual/interesting, priced $125 – $250+.     Read the rest of this entry »
